Is This Normal? (RE: Touch Screen issue)

Hi everybody,

I got my PRS-600 a few days ago. Thus far I’m loving the thing to pieces. However, I’ve noticed that the touch-screen isn’t fully flush against the display in some places.

Most of the touch-layer is flat against the display, but when I press on certain areas the touch-layer flexes inward until it contacts the display. Also, I can hear a soft noise as the touch-layer comes in contact with the screen.

Is this typical for these readers (I’ve never seen any other in person), or should I consider taking this model back for an exchange?

Is the touch layer supposed to be completely flush with the display?

Thanks for your input!

I have a 600 and I've never noticed that - in my mind that shouldn't be happening - see if others have the same experience, but I'd take it back and check out the replacement before you take it home.

I have seen my touch layer flex a little while using it, but it never occured to me that there's a gap between display and touch layer.

Well, I just checked. It feels as if there is a gap. If I press "softly" I just feel the touch layer. If I press a little more, I can actually feel the resistance go up as soon as the touch layer contacts the display. But it must have been this way for the last 3 months.

So I assume this as normal. I have never tried pressing so hard before, so I didn't notice. But this would declare why the text (depending on the viewing angle) sometimes looks as if its behind glass.

I wouldn't think it should be so lose that you could press the touch layer down some before it presses against the underlying screen, at least not noticeably. I did not notice this with the 600 I had or my current 900. If exchanging it is still an option, that would be the safest bet.
