if you have an iphone, and are willing to jailbreak it you can have 3g for your ipad, by jailbreaking your iphone and instlling Mywi which makes your iphone into a wifi hotspot. this is fantastic as ATT is charging 15 for 250mb of data or 30 for unlimited, this adds up quickly!!!
If you are like me and have a iphone that was never jailbroken and had firmware 3.1.3 then up til now you could not jailbreak it. Now you can, go to www.spiritjb.com
