By summer, there will be at least half a dozen iPad killers announced.

I understand they are just following the naming convention used for their other products but seriously a wee pad is something dogs pee on when housebreaking

Since most of the upcoming pads will sport better hardware than the iPad (most will be based on the Cortex A9 architecture, while the iPad's chip is based on Cortex A8), and will be more fully featured (Flash, camera), the real test will be design. If the cases are well designed (virtually all current netbook designs are butt-ugly cheap things) and if the UI is well thought out, enough people will pay more than $500 for a well-designed, fully-featured tablet. Time will tell, but I personally am waiting for these Androids with bated breath.

Add me to the list of anxious watchers of this tablet. On paper, it looks great. Here's hoping it meets expectations.

While next Christmas is going to provide us with many hard choices, but I'll have to pass on this one.
Two points - Battery life - 6 hours. I'm not going to be ridiculous and say "If it doesn’t last for XXX hours, it's no good!" When a manufacturer says that a product will last for x hours then you can depend on it. Under certain limited conditions. Real use will be less. I'll need 7 to 8 REAL use hours. Weight - Almost 2 pounds (850 g with 3G). Not even considering that you will want to put it in something (more weight) to protect it. Now add in the charger. My Toshiba laptop/tablet pc is close to this now. I want something lighter, more portable. |

I doubt this device will see the light any time soon. They haven't even got a prototype but rely on screenshots
. Notion Ink showed up with a physical working device of there Adam-tablet at CES. I have so much more faith in the Adam tablet being out around summer. Here we at least have actual tangible proof that a device exists.

Nintendo does it a lot. Put cool names to their prototypes and then sell their consoles with blander names. The Nintendo 64 was Ultra 64, the GameCube was Dolphin and the Wii was... Revolution. They nailed the third one IMO.

"Revolution" was the developer code-name for what became the Wii. Nintendo felt "Wii" would be easier to pronounce in non-English speaking countries. In addition, the sound (in English) and the shape of the letters emphases the social aspects of the gaming experience.

An impressive looking unit, the WePad. No clue about price, however. And the "capable of running Google's Android" gives me pause ... does that mean it is shipped with Linux only? Also, the 6 hr battery life and the 1.6 GHz processor could be problematic on the otherwise crisp 1360x768 screen ... full HD video without jerkiness over the net? Cool if the manage it.
