Jointech JE100 - ebook reader

We brought you the first leaked picture of the JE100 back in October.
Jointech wasn't ready to announce the device, but now they are.

According to the product page, the JE100 has a 7" LCD touch screen. Here are the specs:
Quote:
OS:MS Windows CE 5.0(English)

CPU: 400 MHz

Storage: Nand Flash 128 MB

RAM: 64 MB

External Memory: TF card up to 4 GB.

USB Ports: 1 host, 1 slave

Multimedia:
Images viewer
Audio and video Player
MS Office, MS Excel, MS Power Point, PDF etc.

Audio: Built in Speaker/ Audio Out

Battery: Li-ion 3.7V (1500mA)
Battery Life: 3 to 6 hours.

Dimension: 18.2cmx11.7cmx1.45cm

Weight: (with Battery) 250 grams
This is the device I was hoping for (aside from the battery life). Since it runs WinCE there is a good chance that it will also run Mobipocket Reader, MSReader, eReader, as well as be relatively easy to use by the average Windows user.

There is also a gallery of images here. They're all photoshopped, sadly.

Looks awesome!

Except that battery life... I like the fact that it runs WinCE.

Interesting.

I didn't know of hand what a TF card was, so I googled it and found two more interesting links (with more images):

With a Pixel Qi 3Qi display (if it is really as good as I hope it is) and a bit thinner it would be a device I want.

I haven't seen anything about connectivity and it should have something. I would prefer GSM (3G, HSDPA) if only mobile providers were not so greedy.

I use an LCD device as my primary reader, and haven't found that to be true. I think you've overgeneralized your dislike of LCD screens into an invalid conclusion.

Looks very interesting.

With the new Pixel-QI screen this would be just great.

MR members fall in two categories (tribes ):

a) those who believe in reading from LCDs
b) those who do not

It is my impression that no forum discussion or preaching ever persuaded anyone to deflect. Only new technology could do it. I keep my fingers crossed for the 3Qi to be such technology.

I totally agree. I've been using an lcd device as my primary reader for a while and I can confirm that the eyestrain is considerably bigger. :-P
3-6 hrs battery life for reading?
Btw. I would consider tossing around words like invalid conclusion. Has there been a study that proved that that eyestrain is greater or smaller with lcds? Because until then we're still in the category of personal opinions, which are purely subjective.

Except the statement wasn't phrased as an opinion. It comes across as a statement of fact.

I second that. I used to read ebooks on my Sony Clie and I couldn't look at the LCD for more than thirty minutes without eyesore. Now with my EZ reader (Hanlin V3) the reading experience is MUCH better. I can finally read for hours comfortably on an electronic device, something which I didn't think was possible. I love e-ink.

Can't we all just agree that some people don't like LCDs and some do, without derailing every thread about a new device into a diatribe about the evils of LCD reading? This dead horse has been beaten enough and his entrails are littering quite a few discussions here at MR.

A better way to divide the 2 categories is:

1, a small number people who make unfounded statements;
2, most everyone else (who don't give a damn)

I fall into a 3rd group. I merely point out the unfounded statements.

I'm all up for it. Let's spread the atmosphere of eink/lcd ecumenism from now on.

I'm not sure I can take all that condescendence at once.

Why is it that a lot of people feel that reading a book using an LCD screen will cause eyestrain? We use LCD monitors and read a lot on the computer, laptop, netbook, etc. Watch TV on LCD screens, play video games on LCD screens amd I don't hear cry of eyestrain. So why is it when reading a book people do cry eyestrain? I do not get eyestrain from reading on my LCD monitor.
