What is your preferred font for ereaders?

I've seen a lot of comments about the dimmness/darkness of the screen fonts. But it's my experience that it is the font not the ereader that dictates this.

If I get a lot of different font's I think I do a poll on them, but meantime...

My favorite is

Verdana.

It is sanserif, and very dark and easy to read. I first discovered it on my Alphasmart Dana unit that included Palm's ereader software.

I have made it my default font in my Word Processor and use it for my ebooks that I create.

Other preferred fonts........?

My firefox prints PDFs in Trebuchet and that, like Verdana, renders very dark and clearly and is a little more visually interesting than Arial.

Zelda had a post a while back about Fontin, which I use and really like.

I go back & forth between Georgia and Fontin. I tend to make "serious" ebooks in Georgia and "fun" ones in Fontin. I prefer serifs on the e-ink reader; I like sans serif on LCD screens. I'd like to find something like Verdana-with-serifs, but haven't found anything that's free. (And when I'm ready to spend money on fonts, there's a few art fonts I want to get first.)

I always settle back on Georgia.

For a while I read SF in Verdana, but actually I find Georgia more comfortable.

Gentium.
I have lots of fonts on my PocketBook and I like to change the font from time to time, yet, I always return to Gentium.

Arial 22 pt, read in landscape mode to allow more words per line.

It is sharp with enough space between letters for background contrast all around.

It isn't the most interesting, but for my bad eyes, it is the most effective.

Sounds like I need to experiment with fonts! I have just left mine on boring old Times Roman!

The font selection on the Pocket Pro only works on certain formats, and does not change epubs or pdfs. What I do is change the font of the file I convert to epub an pdf. Though, I haven't confirmed that Calibre leaves it at my chosen font. My pdf does because I don't go through Calibre.

Anyone know if Calibre keeps your original file's fonts or changes it?

I don't know if it changes the fonts on epub conversion but I have been trying to change the type size and haveing trouble. I want to set a type size that will after conversion not require me to use the zoom to level 3 on the PP to try to keep the page numbers correct. I haven't gotten it to work yet though.

The few I've converted I found using a Base Font of 20.0 pt works good.

I also checked on one of the books I did convert, and it did keep the Verdana font, versus the serif fonts for the purchased books I converted.

I'd have to check again, but I think I'm using Trebuchet. Think I had it on Times New Roman for a while.

Have a look at DejaVu serif. It is free.

Straight lines, nice blocky serifs, very clean and unobtrusive look, supports many languages. If your device supports hinting this should look very clear and sharp.
