Thumbs down Software in Notion Ink Adam

Can anyone advise what e reading software will be in the Notion Ink device?
And will it be customised by Notion Ink to be different ?

Thanks

Nobody has a clue what Notion Ink's going to have. Their concept mockups and renders are different from their demo prototype, and their software demonstration is always tempered with statements that it is not what will be in the final device.

I hope they do come out with something good, but right now, they're demonstrating nothing real, and instead trying to hold public attention despite not actually having a product to sell. It doesn't help that their blog is full of contrived "visionary" posts, instead of actual details of development.

If they DO manage to get a product done, and they DO get it to market, it will probably just run stock Android apps for a while, until they can get developers to make custom software for it. If they intend to undertake all that themselves, they'll probably never have a market-ready product.

Android is a lock if for no other reason than it's [essentially] free. That means you have [or will have] access to all the basic e-reading Android apps which are all on par with iPod e-reading apps (but, less than a full-desktop e-reading application).

Notion Ink certainly had the ambition, but the Slashgear hands-on suggests that they're going to outsource that via developer contests. Even if they make no changes, Android is usable and can be skinned with themes or layers without much trouble.

With a little know how, you can port other UX over.

I hope all this renewed activity (New look website & actual specs) builds up to a release date!
I for one haven't heard of any other device that suits my needs (I want to read fiction in bed and read PDF's& colour articles while travelling for business.)
That screen seems just what I need in terms of contrast / Epaper and size.

looks really good on paper. Let us hope build quality, actual looks and weight, software, etc, are up to par.

Yes, but will they be scalable to the larger screen? That’s one of the issues I see with the iPad; it will run most iPhone apps, but in an iPhone sized window. Why would anyone want to carry around a ten inch device just to run apps in an iPhone/iPod touch sized window?

Two comments:
1. Yes, they will scale... Android does that automatically... it's actually NOT scaling that requires additional software implementation and is a pretty trivial hack.

2. You're wrong about the iPad, it runs iPod/iPhone apps BOTH in 480 x 320 OR in the iPad's native resolution, full screen. The iPad has, built in, a degree of antialiasing and dithering to make the pixels not too blockish when blown up, however, without optimizations/updates by developers, it will just be the literal 3.5" app blown up to 9.7"... however there is no "tiny window" problem as you present it.

Here is a game developer's experimentation with the iPad Simulator, showing the 3 modes possible (the 3rd being with a bit of work, of course-note he posted this just a week after the iPad SDK was released).
