What is in your cup?

Black coffee in my cup. It's early but I went to bed at some ridiculously early time last night. We had visitation (I suppose called a "wake" in some circles) last night for my mother, and the funeral is today. All of the family finally got here - my nephew and his wife returned from Thailand yesterday afternoon. We had a lot of talking and laughing and eating, and it struck us how much Mom would have enjoyed it.

I'm coping well, I think, but I'm TIRED. For months I've slept lightly, and not very well, listening out for Mom. It seems like since she's been gone I just lose consciousness at night, and sleep very deeply. I hope I catch up on my sleep soon, because I feel ridiculous yawning at 7 p.m.! Anyway, a tough day today, I think. And then more sleep.

It sounds like your family is very special. It is great that you are able to come together and celebrate her life. Today will be tough but if you can remember how happy it would make her to have her children and grandchildren together, then it should be a bit easier.

*hugs* Betty! "Caregiver sleep" mode is exhausting! You have months of restful sleep to catch up on. But deep sleep is healing.

Your family sounds wonderful - share the happy memories and the sad goodbyes together!

Good morning, all! The nice sunny weather didn't stick around, today is cloudy but I have to stay inside this morning anyway. The 'checkers' are coming around today; one group checks the fire detectors in each room to make sure they are working, and another group will check all the sinks and drains to make sure there are no blockages or leaks. Nice service! They even tell you just about to the hour when they will be at your door. This year both groups are coming on the same day, and within an hour of each other so I can leave the house by 11am! That's service!

I'll pass the time waiting for them with a big mug of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea, a bowl of miso soup, and a grilled chicken breast. I really want to go walking today, so I'm going to 'walk to my chores!' The supermarket I want to go to is about 2km away, and if I take a round-about route there, I can get in a nice 8km walk... so long as it doesn't rain! Maybe I need to say some prayers to Charlie's 'Iron Goddess of Mercy...' Here's what she looked like yesterday...

Allright: the freedom I had in Caïro is done. I am in the south of Egypt and for our protection we got an police- escort and there's a policeman in front of the hotel. They take real good care of us tourists. Well, I did like roaming Caïro's streets on my own.

I travelled the whole day; saw several pyramids; had good food and it is fantastic and nicely warm 34 degrees.

Ouch. I went years without one, but since I got this one I find it hard to think about going back.
