India's First Ebook Reader/Store?

Hi,

Infibeam is offering an Ebook Reader 6' Cybook/Foxit clone.

There is also an associated Ebookstore with prices in local currency.

The reader can be pre-ordered now. Rs. 9999 ~ 220 USD (at current exchange rate).

This announcement is important for at least the following reasons:
  • Billing is in INR
  • 1 year local indian warranty
  • No International shipping/customs hassles
  • No USD exchange rate concerns
  • Support for Indian scripts
  • Associated ebookstore to be launched

Until this, ebook readers have been available mainly through the grey market(no support) or through international purchases(expensive).

This seems to be India's first Ebook Reader+Ebookstore combination.
Though this is not exactly the latest model, this is a big step forward.

Thanks

That's interesting! Good find. Are there ebooks available in local Indian languages like Hindi and Tamil or only in English?

It seems currently there is no(or not many) ebooks in indian languages. But the cust support assured that more is on the way.
The reader however supports local languages.
