Talking Make your own Super Bowl commercial!

In honor of SuperBowl XLIV, let's make our own commercials we'd like to see. I'll start:

Scene: A grassy field, somewhere in the picturesque Colorado landscape, mountains in the background. 22 Clydesdales playing football on the field.

Quick shots in succession: A football being snapped by a hoof; running horses; farm animals on the sidelines, cheering and stomping about; horses head-butting each other; a football sails through the air; a horse falls to the ground; another horse runs past two markers on the ground; a racoon (why not?) stands nearby, and raises his arms in a "touchdown" signal.

Cut to: A rooster crows, signalling halftime.

Cut to: Mice, bringing a small stage into the middle of the field as the horses move aside.

Cut to: Two men, leaning against a fence facing the field. They are stretching and nodding, but otherwise expressionless.

Man 1: Pretty good game, huh?

Man 2: You bet.

Cut to: Middle of the field. Three chipmonks dash onto the stage, and start squeaking in unison.

Cut to: Horses and farm animals at sideline. They watch the chipmonks, silent and motionless.

Cut to: Men at fence. One of them squints at stage.

Man 1: I thought we were gonna get Alvin and the Chipmonks.

Man 2: Stupid tribute bands.

Alternate commercial:

Scene: 22 Clydesdales rush toward a familiar field to play football.

Cut to: Shot of Clydesdales rushing toward the camera. Suddenly they stop as if surprised.

Cut to: Playing field, which is now nothing but dirt, as far as the eye can see.

Cut to: Two men leaning on a fence facing the field. Man 1 shrugs at Man 2.

Man 1: The ethanol deal was just too good, man.

Two men leaning on a fence facing the field. Man 1 shrugs at Man 2.

Man 1: You should see my tax breaks.

New commercial

Scene 1: A bar, with the super bowl playing on big screens. The bar is packed, but the people (all seen from behind in camera POV) are still and quiet.

Scene 2: A living room, the super bowl is playing on a big TV. The people crowded around the screen (all seen from behind in camera POV) are still and quiet.

Repeat above scene setup at a restaurant, on a college campus common room, a work break room... even a football locker room.

Back to scene 1: Camera pulls forward and tilts down, to see over the shoulders of people at the bar. The people can now be seen to be reading e-books on various dedicated readers, PDAs, cellphones, gameboys, laptops (where color magazines are evident), blackberries.

Camera move and reveal is repeated at each previous scene. Everyone is reading e-books. In the locker room, a player is reading Sports Illustrated on a laptop in full color.

Fade to black. Caption on screen: E-books are here. Go get yours.

Scene : Two kids sitting at breakfast table. Mom making toast, fried eggs, bacon (down VR), mushrooms and tomatoes. Propped up against the frying pan is a ebook, camera zooms in "For busy moms, the easy guide to cooking breakfast".

Camera pans to sideboard, two huge bowls sitting empty.

Camera pans to kids and follows their eyes to a carton of cereal.

Camera pans to doorway where dad appears, rubbing his eyes, ruffling his hair. Follows his walk to sideboard. Watches him pick up bowl, fill it with cereal and tops up with milk and three spoonfuls of sugar.

Watches him move to table, sits, places bowl down. Picks up e-book, spoon, props the book up against the bowl and starts to eat. Camera zooms in "A serial for dads on how to eat from one of THE BOWLS - Book 1".

Camera pans to kids. Kid one nods to kid two : Both start to sing ..... as each then take up their iPads and start to read comics........

Scene fades slowly. Camera in distance picks up the two reading adults, each looking lovingly at their e-books.

Caption on screen as fade continues : For mums and dads anywhere, anytime.

New commercial

Scene: Inside a barn, looking out. Outside, Clydesdales can be seen playing football. At the door of the barn, a lone Clydesdale limps painfully into the barn from the field. He has a blanket draped over his back. A racoon watches the horse limping inside. Then the racoon chirps at the horse.

Cut to: Horse, turning to look at racoon.

Cut to: Racoon, chirps again, stands on hind legs, and holds up a bottle of Coke.

Cut to: Horse, shaking its head 'no'.

Cut to: Racoon chirps again, holds the coke up higher.

Cut to: Horse, nods his head and dips head down.

Cut to: Racoon, now his hands are empty.

Cut to: Horse, with coke bottle between his teeth, tilts head back and drains the bottle.

Cut to: Racoon, watching for a moment, then gets down on all fours and starts to walk away, toward the outside of the barn.

Cut to: Horse, finishing the coke, neighs at the racoon.

Cut to: Racoon, turns back to look at horse.

Cut to: Horse, reaching back, grabs the blanket on his back with his teeth. He flings it at the racoon.

Cut to: Racoon, lifting on its hind legs to catch the blanket. Blanket lands on him and completely covers him. Blanket starts to bound about, and racoon's happy chirping is heard underneath.

Cut to: Horse, bearing his teeth in a horse-smile. Abruptly, camera pulls back... to reveal a screening room showing the commercial to two (human) TV executives in the dark.

Exec 1: I dunno... I liked the original with Mean Joe Greene better.

Exec 2: Mean Joe who?

Oh, well... I guess this was an unutterable waste of time. Sorry; thought I had something interesting going. And now that is is Super Bowl Sunday, we can all go watch the real commercials.

They'd better be good.

a Waste - no - never - some of us obviously don't understand this fascination with Bowls - unless it's ten-pin, Crown-green or breakfast related .....
