Daily notifications?

Okay, maybe I'm spoiled, but over at a few of the Linux forums to which I belong I get almost immediate email notifications about additions to the threads to which I subscribe. Now, obviously there's a lot going on here and server time/space costs money, but is there any way you can send an email, buzz an IM account, or something a little more often than once a week? I'll be in the middle of a conversation and have to go to work, or something intriguing will come up and I'll miss it despite having been there that morning (or night, whatever).

Of course I realize it's not just a matter of flipping a switch but can we look into that kind of functionality?

good news for you (and i hope you'll see this reply before a week goes by

), you can modify the subscription alerts as you like, and instant notification is one of the options. go to your user cp, then choose "edit options" or click here http://www.mobileread.com/forums/pro...do=editoptions
under Messaging & Notification you'll see Default Thread Subscription Mode. select from the list, "save changes" at the bottom of the page, done.

you may have to update individually the options for already-subscribed threads ; do that in user cp / subscribed threads / view subscriptions. check the box to the right of the thread, and use the drop-down list at the bottom of the page to update the notification type.

Thanks, Zelda, I didn't know about that either. Mainly because I don't subscribe to anything! He asked me and I didn't have an answer for him.

EDIT: I'll make sure he sees it before a week *grin*.

heh. don't thank me yet. when i joined, "instant notification" was the default (maybe that's changed), and it took me a while before i figured out how to change that. now i get no notification (i just check my user cp when i have time). but during the interval, my inbox was flooded every day. it was all i could do to delete the old ones before even more arrived.

of course, possibly you don't subscribe to as *many* threads as i do...

You might also try the RSS feed. At least your inbox will be smaller

Hehe - was same for me. Took me a while to figure out how to get rid of the email messages. I'm here often enough to check the cp and my Inbox doesn't need anymore emails.

Odd, when I first joined I thought it was either weekly or none at all because that was all the servers or mods could handle. The email addy it will go to isn't really used for much else ATM so I'm not worried about a spam-jam. Thanks Zelda, appreciate it!
