Quality of images

Hello,

I am using Calibre to create an epub file.

Unfortunately it is reducing the quality of the images in the document significantly (from 300dpi to maybe around 50dpi or below).

Please can you tell me how I can adjust this.

Thank you.

PS
My original file is html, created in TextMate, with links to image files.
No matter how good quality I make the images, the quality of the epub images is very poor.

Are you doing a zip-to-epub conversion or importing your html file into the calibre Editor to create the epub?

If the former, what do you have set on the 'Convert - Page Setup' page in the 'Output profile' menu? If it's not already set to 'Tablet', change it and try the conversion again. The 'Tablet' option makes no attempt to rescale images to fit the older smaller screen resolutions, e.g. a 1500x2000 image should still be the same size after conversion.

I'm not sure whether calibre can make other automatic adjustments to image quality during conversion.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

I am importing the html file to Calibre.

I cannot see an "Output Profile" menu.

The menu I see is:
Calibre / Add books / Edit metadata / Convert books / Calibre library / Save to disk / Preferences / Help

Or
Add books / Edit Metadata / Convert books / View / Calibre library / HEART / Fetch news / Get books / Save to disk / Connect/share / Remove books / Edit book

How can I find the setting you are mentioning?

Thank you.

Correction.

I have found what you were suggesting, and will now apply it and see what happens

That appears to have fixed it, thank you! )

(fyi I would have described the menu as Convert Books / Page setup / Output profile

In other words I would said, "Output profile" in the Page Setup menu, under Convert Books. The reverse order.

But I found it in the end )

Thank you again.

Might I suggest that you change this to be the default setting in a future release, since it is the only setting that "makes no attempt to rescale images to fit the older smaller screen resolutions" ??

Thank you again )

Finn

If you want that profile as your 'standard' for all New conversions,

Make the change in Preferences: Common Options

The setting in the Convert Dialog, is a 1 off, per book override.
Per Book conversion settings are remembered (unless cleared) and will not use the Default set in Preferences.
