Actually the article says that the universities will have crunched the data of the field test by August, and there is no mention of a new field test. I think it is the same field test we have been reading about, with 200 people reading De Tijd on the Iliad. (We surmised that they had signed non-disclosures, as none had participated here). My guess is that the test data will be passed on to a university communications group, who will look to see whether the usage of the electronic newspaper is comparable to the paper paper.

Since the main busines model of Irex appears to build a platform, and sell content distributors on 'installing' it for their user base, this has more to do with human-device interaction, and delivery of the paper - once a day, continuous update etc - than with the maturity of the device.

Apple sold the iPod and you can rip your CD and put it on, or you can buy content via the ITMS. So, if the Iliad works, why would they not sell it to people like us who may not have access to the equivalent of the ITMS, but who will put their own content on it. In the meantime they continue to study their main business model?
