Sorry to hear the tragedy.
I can't help since I am no EE background.
Just a tiny suggestion:
Have you removed the back lid of iLiad? If so, perhaps you can send some picture here, so that people knowing iLiad screen replacement can give you instructions.

It is best if you replace the whole part shown in this picture:
http://wiki.mobileread.com/images/f/fe/223906840.jpg

because the front plastics are glued to the glass of the display, removing the front panel is difficult and may cause glass breakage.
Note that you can only do this if the new display is also 1st generation, 2nd generation will not fit.

Also, the display properties will be wrong (wrong waveform and Vcom setting), so the new display may show a lot of ghosting...

good luck

Once you have unscrewed all 8 phillips screws, you can remove the back cover. Try the keep the inner plastics (grey) and the front plastics (black) together, because this holds display (fragile). When removing the back cover beware of the speaker and the battery connector. The display is only connected to the mainboard with the flat cable. The small board that connects to the glass via several foils must stay connected to the glass. This board holds the iRex display driver and has some display specific parameters stored in it.

the flatcable should stay with the display, to disconnect the cable from the mainboard, lift the brown flap you have indicated on your picture. Use the flatcable of the other iLiad to connect to your main board.
The mainboard should be detachable from the part that you photographed. Perhaps there are some screws, not sure.
Anyway, it's best if you can replace the complete part shown in the picture from Q2.

simply lift the brown flap with a nail from your fingers. It is only used to hold the flat cable in the socket. The flat cable has two sides:
- on top the ends are reinforced with some hard plastic (the light blue parts)
- on the other side, the conductive ends of the wires in the flat cable are visible, this part must be pushed onto the mainboard
Then pull down the brown flap again (pressing down on the light blue plastic parts) to hold the flat cable in its place...

It's really easy, just try to connect and disconnect the flat cable a few time, you'll get a better feeling for it.

Just checked this... The Mainboard is screwed to the mainboard with two phillips screws on both sides of the TravelHub connector (at the botom of the device or left side in the picture from Q1). You'll have to watch the travelhub connector, audio jack and on-off switch when you're removing the mainboard...

According to Pauli's instructions,I have assembled the screen and mainboard together successfully. It is not difficult. Pauli. thank you again.

but the screen I have bought have some faults .there is a white line in the middle of the screen . when the screen reflash, it became a light line , it need time to get used to it.
