That looks very interesting indeed. And 220dpi - better and better.

The big question is whether they can meet their "latter 2010" timescale. I don't know of any other colour display that has announced an anticipated 2010 shipping date.

Definitely an interesting technology to watch. I wonder if they'll be able to ramp production as quickly as they think? That always seems to be the challenge when going from prototype to production. Just look at the delays from plastic logic.

The claims for battery life when offering video would be very impressive if they turn out to be accurate. This could certainly shake up the display market for portable devices.

Damn. A hard time to choose an ereader. I would have dismissed this small size screen if it wasn't for the 768x1024 resolution.

I don't really need color but if all other things being equal or better (resolution, battery life, contrast, price), of course I would choose the color reader.

C'mon e-ink, you've been sitting on the same displays for years. How about getting Epson's 385ppi (3104 x 4128) version to market?

Two things I wonder about with Mirasol:
1) Low yield rates for larger displays. The display in the video is tiny!
2) Washed out colors. Even Obama looks sickly in the sample picture. Apparently, the tolerances for angles of viewing are very low with this thing.

I hope they get this sorted out.

Cool stuff. I hope someone comes out with a good black and white reader someday too.

I was thinking the same thing. Give me an ereader with a nice parchment tinted background and good blacks and I'll be very content. I do see the applicability of color to certain types of books/periodicals, but I question how beneficial it is if the color is not of a high quality with good contrast etc.

One thing to remember, even with all the apparent limits, it's refresh rate is less than a 1/10 of a second. No more e-ink blink flash....

I've been hearing about this tech from a relative at Qualcomm for a while now. It'll be interesting to see how it really performs. But it does look like it has some promise.

Something funny about the SlashGear article, though -- they mention that the unit shown is a non-functional mock-up (only the screen is real), then they go on to show us pictures of the back of the mock-up, the USB port, the headphone jack, etc...
