Dr. Drib, it's kinda funny because even with the original "not nice" post, compared to most forums I've been a part of, we've been very well behaved. Civilized, even.
When I was essentially told, "Who cares about these posts" I wasn't called an idiot, moron, or something unmentionable in front of the young-uns. To me, that speaks volumes of the level of decorum (and maturity!) here. Sure, the rejection that markbot sent stung a bit - but it only stung relative to what goes on around here. Other places, I would have launched a flame attack in my defence and everyone would have heaped on the ad-hominems to both of us. I've seen threads get out-of-hand here, and they should be shut down, but here, I think it's mild. tl;dr - I think it's all good. And on-topic, I think I'm becoming really appreciative of Amazon's customer service. A work friend recommended to me "The Night's Dawn Trilogy" (really a 6-part series!) by Peter Hamilton. Past bad habits being what they are, I would have tried to bittorrent the thing - why would I pay when it's there for free? But Amazon's interface is SLICK - I probably should pay for all this creativity, I ain't hurting for money, so I search google, and Amazon is the first thing to show up. Click, click, and now it's sitting on my Kindle - and hopefully the author is a few centavos richer. Amazon, by doing what they did, reformed a die-hard pirate. Will I ever pirate anything again? Maybe, but when my entertainment is this cheap (a book for 8 bucks?!?) and Amazon treats me this well in the age of crap service, why would I bother? I'm a fanatical Amazon customer for life now. I just hope Jeff Bezos realizes that by treating each customer well, you really do build a kind of loyalty. |
