Free on Kindle - The Hunters

The Hunters by Jason Pinter (whose The Mark ($5.76) was free in the Kindle store earlier this month), is now available as a free pre-order in the Kindle store (see Harlequin for other free formats). This is a short work and is a lead-in to his upcoming The Darkness ($7.99 paperback). The book will available to download November 1.

Book Description
After one of the most harrowing weeks of Henry Parker's life, night has finally come. Settled in with Amanda Davies, he sleeps before preparing to chase a story alongside his mentor, Jack O'Donnell.

Meanwhile Jack sits on the other side of town, fresh out of rehab, hoping to salvage a once-great career derailed by public humiliation. This is Jack's last chance to leave his mark.

Elsewhere in the city, two killers are on the move. They are brutal, calculating, and after tonight their decade's long plan will come to fruition. But before the morning comes they have a few stops to make...

This may be a sample, rather than a freebie.

Some irritation is called (NOT directed toward friend Kolan), but toward Amazon for this specific title.

My recommendation for readers who encounter this from ANY PUBLISHER: Let's nip this in the bud, and rate as low as one can when the advertising appears to be false.

The thing now lay upon his plate, small and helpless, unmoving, the substance black as a night bereft of stars. With disgust, he tossed the overcooked hamburger out the window, along with the mustard and buns. -- How he hated to cook!

Not a sample, it's a short story/novella. It's becoming popular with some publishers, especially Harlequin, to have the writer do a short story and then sell it for $2-$3 and generally offer it free for a while to promote a new regular book/series release.

Several mainstream authors have been doing this in print for a while too - between each novel in a series, they release a $3 novella that takes place in between the main books. They then release 3 or 4 at a time as a collection, later, as well.

This one is supposed to be a lead in to the upcoming (December, I think) next novel in the series.

The Hunters is the title of a 2007 book by W.E.B. Griffin. I think this should be rated as low as possible just for using the title of an already existing book. Plus Griffin's book is better.

There are probably over half a dozen books with that title. It's not exactly original.

I think when reviewing anything the review should be based on merit. It should not be rated low because one does not like the title.

There are many books with the same of very similar title as other books. That doesn't mean they are bad books.

There are a lot of titles like:

Noun

and another totally different name

The Noun

Titles are not copyrighted.

There are also similarities present in titles, for example:

"The Invisible Man"
"Invisible Man"

Both are very famous works.
