Confession.... (I can't believe I did it.)

But I did. I read a paper book this morning.

I couldn't help myself. Honestly, I tried not to do it. I really tried.

I was cleaning up some shelves in the front room and came across my old annotated copy of "Walden" and I was lost. I sat down on the floor with it, and the next thing I new, my wife was calling me to the table for lunch.

I have to admit it. There IS something special about old favorite books. The feel. The smell. Old notes you wrote in the margins 30 years ago. Although I have gotten rid of 90% of my paper library (not much free space in a Japanese condo) there are just some books I'll never part with!

Oh, goodie a confession thread!!

Forgive me, mr members, for I also have succumbed to the paper temptation.

This morning I went to have my car lubed and oil changed. Guess what........there was a used book store right around the corner. I actually walked 1/2 block and entered it.

Oh my goodness. So I came away with a hardback, no less. It one of a series that BN came out with...."100 Fiendish Little Nightmares" Already have the 100 little mysteries, monsters, vampires, ghosts, etc.

I feel so...........guilty.........but deliciously satisfied.....

You people disgust me. The only use I have for a p-book is to cut it up, scan it and turn it into something useful.

You, desertgrandma, are the worst. Where was your Kindle while this debauchery took place? You should be ashamed of yourself. Owners of dedicated reading devices read during oil changes. That is, if they have any self respect.

That's great. You took your Kindle to a bookstore. That's like taking your grandchildren to a brothel.

It's the lack of shame that I find more disturbing than anything.

Now...Now... I have two written, two currently under construction, one plotted and one not even started. It'll be awhile....

And as a Texas gentleman, all the characters (who are brave enough to leave me a mailing address) in the stories will get a copy gratis. You know the Texan Motto, "You pay for the lunch, I'll pay for the Cadillacs."

When the time comes, maybe I can pass around some sign sheets so that every body could sign a page and have it built into the book....

For us engineers it's all trade-offs. We live in a closed system.

I think we'll collect old books like we have some vinyl records around the house too. While my Stephen King books went out the door long ago, the 'special' books like my Tolkien will stay in the house!
