Getting list of books on device takes forever

I love Calibre but it seems that when I plug in my Kindle DX (with only 1GB of content) it will take around 8 minutes "to get a list of books on device"

Is there a way to stop it getting this list? Sometimes I just plug the DX in quickly in the hope that my latest news will copy to it, but have to wait out until this job is done (and it won't let me stop it) before I can copy anything over.

I appreciate anyone that help me, thanks!

Only 1 GB? Ouch that is a lot! I have 480 books on my Cybook and together that is 260 Mb and one of them is a 22 Mb dictionary.

Reading the information takes 1 minute 8 seconds

I have this same problem. About 400mb of data and it takes FOREVER to do this. I'm not sure how long exactly, but upwards of 3-4 minutes.

I generally hit 'O' on whatever I'm looking for and close Calibre before I plug in my DX and then just move the file manually.

I'd really prefer it not do this or some ability to turn off the feature myself. I never move files the other direction.

Go to Preferences->Plugins->Device Interface plugins->Kindle Device interface and turn off read metadata
