Mobipocket stops accepting new publishers;
the Kindle goes international; and now there is finally a Kindle Reader on my PC. I guess Amazon really is going to kill off Mobipocet. |

It is nice to see Amazon, the supposed leader of the pack, catching up with the functionality of other eReaders.

Nice idea, but I'd much rather have Kindle for Mac. At least then I could more easily read at work during the slow times.

If this means we can buy books at Amazon's price level and then strip the DRM, I'm all for it.. who knows, it might even bring the price down in some other stores.

Very cool. It looks like the app is going to support multi-touch on Windows 7: http://gizmodo.com/5387663/amazon-mu...-for-windows-7
I hope the Mac app isn't far behind - I doubt a lot of people own multi-touch Windows devices. |

I wonder what the Window's Kindle PID will be. If it is the same as the Windows MobiPocket PID, or is otherwise discoverable, this will provide a way for almost everyone to get access to the Kindle Store's AZW ebooks, strip the DRM (if any, a small but significant percentage of AZWs don't have DRM), and read the resulting DRM-free MOBIs on any device. Note that stripping DRM from ebooks you bought for personal non-commercial use isn't legal everywhere, see a recent post by Xenophon on the murky situation in the US.

Do Kindle books bought to read using the iPhone app have a different PID linked to them than books bought from the Kindle on the same Amazon account? I'm just wondering if the software apps have PIDs associated with the hardware they're running on, and not the kindles on the Amazon account. Has anyone "liberated" a Kindle book bought using an iPhone, and if so, what PID was needed?

Not that I'd know anything about it, but my friend said that the iPhone had a different PID.

Well actually, I'd prefer to get the kindle iPhone app as a non-US-customer. Been keeping watch on the iTS, but so far it hasn't shown up here in Hinterland Austria. |

Cool, may use this on my netbook.
![]() Looks like they're opening the Kindle Store to the masses! Probably in response to the B&N thing I'll bet. |
