Hmmm. A 9-inch ebook reader. I wonder what exactly in-cell touch functions and embedded Single Chip Solution means.

I don't know, but it sounds cool doesn't it?

Actually, I think "in cell" means that the touch functionality is built right into the display rather than being a separate layer under or over the epaper itself.

They said it was 9:1 contrast ratio...I guess it's a step up from Vizplex. Can't wait until we can double or triple that at least...

Hi,

just yesterday I read that some company plans on producing processor versions just for eBook readers combining ARM-based CPU and controller for the eInk screen in one chip. I guess that is what they are referring to.

Cheers,
Klaus

This is merely about a new type of display, NOT A FULL READER.

From the press release:
Quote:
With the in-cell touch functions and embedded Single Chip Solution, the debut 9-inch e-book display provides a 1024x768 high-definition screen. AUO also debuts its 2-piece 6” e-book with foldable design. Consumers can combine e-book reading with a traditional reading experience.
I think these are reference designs for ebook Readers, but I agree that this is mostly about displays and there might not even be full reference designs available.

I always see these electronic paper devices in sci-fi movies and they look so damn cool.

In this case it can be bent, but ships in a bulky solid frame so it's not bendy? The bendiness may be a little marketing ploy given that the final product isn't made to be so flexible?

The advantage would just being must less fragile than the glass on current e-ink devices.

Most people don't need to bend what they're reading. Flexibility just makes it more durable, more resistant to drops and jostling around in a backpack or briefcase etc.

I'm more interested to see what it does for stylus writing/touch screen functions in regard to accuracy, lag (on e-ink like the iRex) etc.

It is a step down from 10:1.
The step up is in the new iRex; 12:1.
I will not buy a new reader as long as I do not see a big step up.
In too many conditions, the screen of my reader is too dark, whereas a paper book is perfectly readable.
