The site just launched with pre-orders being accepted to the tune of $490, or $530 if you're wanting any color other than midnight blue, and will ship out February 2010.

The bezel, like that of the Kindle, wastes a lot of space. Other than that, I like the concept --- a good temporary fix until a full-color, internet responsive, long battery life e-ink device comes out.

I don't like it. If you're going to have a side by side screen, why not 2 e-ink screens that works like a real book. When you open it it shows page 1 on 1 screen and page 2 on the other screen; if you flip the page then you get page 3 and page 4.

One e-ink display is bad enough.

It may not be the best for just reading books, but as a university student i think this is an excellent multi-purpose device, i can use the e-ink for reading textbooks, writing notes and i can also use the colour lcd which can be turned off when not in use for web browsing, email and other student activities. I think this is an excellent approach.

Same here - it's a nice idea, saves carrying around an e-ink reader and a netbook. Shame about the large bezel though...

Looks very clunky, lots of plastic holding smallish screens. I'd rather have a single screen, the book format works well for paper books, but who is to say it's ideal for electronic devices.

I guess that format may be ideal for students if the right panel is a note taking area and the left the textbook itself. But generally when I study I don't use an ebook device, I'll be on a laptop.

Weighs a lot at 3 lbs, so not an inducement to use it as a replacement for my Sony. And if I don't like the blue, I get another color for another $40, which brings the price to $530. It will be available in February.

It does seem to have some fairly good features, however. I like the idea of being able to annotate and write using the stylus like a pen rather than having to type.

But the device ain't for me. When I read on my Sony, I read for pleasure; when I read on my computer, I read for work. I like having the demarcation by device.

It's not the first. Panasonic had a two-screener a couple of years before, called SigmaBook.

The difference is that those were both LCDs. This is an LCD and an "ePaper" (presumably eInk) display.

This looks like a kids video game toy...sorry I'm not too fond of the clunkiness and all that plastic.

Is the stylus powered, or is it like the old Palm styluses (i.e., a pointy piece of plastic)?

According to the spec's at least the e-ink screen uses a wacom digitiser so i'd say it'll work similar to the irex models

Came to say this. As an ebook reader, meh, but it looks really awesome for college students.
