Sorry Palin/Kennedy book readers... you'll just have to wait a little longer

So all you eager e-book readers who want to get your hands on the latest Kennedy or Palin memoir (how often do you expect to see those 2 names juxtaposed in the same sentence!).

Palin's memoir is apparently slated for release on 11/17. However, the eBook version will not be released until 12/26 to maximize the hardcover sales.

According to the article:

Quote:
Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins, has commissioned a huge first printing of 1.5 million copies. Sen. Ted Kennedy's "True Compass," published by Twelve soon after his Aug. 25 death, also had a 1.5 million first printing.

As with the Kennedy book, the digital edition of Palin's memoir will not be released at the same time as the hardcover. "Going Rogue" will not be available as an e-book until Dec. 26 because "we want to maximize hardcover sales over the holidays," Harper spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Monday.

Publishers have been concerned that e-books, rapidly becoming more popular, might take away sales from hardcover editions, which are more expensive.
Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_302246.html

p.s. I know this isn't really news... I just couldn't resist posting a news item that featured both Kennedy and Palin in the same context (something that I'm sure both camps would be appalled at!)

Would I find that under the "Children's Section" or "Politics for Dummies"?

If there's a real demand, both books will be scanned, OCR'd and available on the Darknet on or before their hardcover release dates. All it's really likely to do is lower eBook sales because people will be less interested in either book by the time the eBook's released.

Yeah, but if that happens, she'll use her lawyers to sue the internet again!

Assuming she knows the term "internet" is probably a little generous.

I'd think she'd sue the "intertubes" or maybe the "world wide email".

Maybe Tina Fey will do her memoir - ONLY in ebook form!

Strongly resisting the urge to make some snarky comment about how Palin's memoir will be 10 pages long and mostly be about denying anti-corruption charges after her short time in office. Maybe she will go into the years of being a housewife and beauty pagent winner, or how she had to go to 7 colleges to find one that would graduate her, or her knowledge of world affairs..

She sums up what's wrong with politics, people voting for figureheads who give them a warm fuzzy aw shucks feeling.

Oh damn I made a snarky comment, sorry!

Palin's book wouldn't work with current e-ink screens anyway, you would need a colour screen to get the full effect and higher rez to see how careful she had been not to go over any edges with her crayons.
