Books for Halloween!

I'm looking for some scary horror books to get me into the spirit of Halloween. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, what books get you into the Halloween spirit?
(They don't have to be scary!) :P

Two books I read religiously every year, both not that scary, but both classics in my book:

The Halloween Tree - Ray Bradbury

Night in the Lonesome October - Roger Zelazny

Sadly, both are unavailable as e-books (as of my last checking)

That's alright! I still read paper books so I'll definitely check those out.

Bram Stoker's Dracula

H.P. Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu

Both have been uploaded by the good folks here at MB and are free.

There are also a couple Horror short story anthologies in there too.

There's also The String of Pearls (the original Sweeney Todd story), available at manybooks.net.

I second A Night in the Lonesome October.

I would also suggest Ray Bradbury's short story The October Game.

And maybe something by Fritz Leiber like Our Lady of Darkness or Conjure Wife or one of his ghost stories.

The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman. Because Halloween just requires a graveyard, you know...

Summer of Night by Dan Simmons
The Graveyard Book by Gaiman
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

The last one's kind of an experiment and a bit challenging to read but worth checking out.

I definitely have to second that one. If you saw the 70's movie with Roddy McDowell, don't let that stop you. This is a fantastic read, genuinely creepy, and doesn't give up until the very end.

In the same haunted house vein, I'll reccomend Shirley Jackson's similarly titled (but much subtler, but not less hair raising) Haunting of Hill House.

If you're not in the mood for horror, there's always Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party.
