Official list of ADE ePub compatible e-book devices

Interested to find out which e-book devices currently support the Adobe ePub format (including ADEPT DRM)? Adobe kindly sent us a link to a list that seems fairly up to date:

Supported eBook devices (Adobe)

The list includes: Astak EZ Reader, Astak EZ Reader Pocket PRO, Astak Mentor, BeBook One, BeBook Mini, Cybook Gen3, Cybook Opus, COOL-ER, Elonex eBook, Hanlin V5, Hanlin V3, IREX Digital Reader 1000S, NUUT2, Sony PRS-300 Reader Pocket Edition, Sony PRS-505 Reader Digital Book, Sony PRS-600 Reader Touch Edition, Sony PRS-700BC Reader Digital Book.

Thanks also to keng2000 who already reported the news to us.

NUUT2 is an Neolux reader, btw, Neolux being a Korean subsidiary of E-Ink.

Even the term "Adobe ePub format" makes me cringe, sigh ...

This looks like a concerted effort to knock Amazon off their strangle hold on the ebook market.

This is very welcome, now the next step is NO DRM.

One step at a time! We're talking about publishers here, remember? First they had to take the very scary step to create ebooks, then to decide on what format to use, and now you want them to change their mind on DRM at the same time!

I'm not sure that I understand your point. Amazon are not, and never have been, in a "monopolistic" position in the eBook market.

Certain publishers had books only available on Amazon and not in other formats.

Maybe this will make those publishers make their books available for purchase by users of non kindle devices.

What you say is true if you look at the niche market specifically, that which serves the tiny fraction of the world who knows about and appreciates eBooks. But if you look at the general public just coming into awareness of this concept, they don't know of anyone but Amazon and are only opening their eyes to the existence of alternatives. In a way this is a monopoly, albeit virtual and temporary. It's still the same sort of challenge to tackle as a competing company.

That may be true in the USA, but not elsewhere. A few people in other countries have imported Kindles, but Sony are a much bigger player than Amazon internationally.

Amazon doesn't even sell ebooks outside the US yet, does it?

The list is NOT correct. The Irex 1000S, and maybe others, should not yet be on it. According to Irex: Additional formats supported in the future (Adobe PDF/EPUB).
