BeBook mini to hit stores within 4 weeks

The 5" version of the BeBook, the BeBook mini, will be available for sale within 'the next 4 weeks', according to a tweet from Endless Ideas, the company behind the BeBook.

The BeBook mini will be able to display ePub ebooks. It is not sure yet whether drm'ed Mobipocket is also supported. The ereader does not offer wireless connectivity; this option will be featured by BeBook 2, which is expected fall 2009.

And for those who don't want to wait for the 'Baby BeBook' to arrive, the Hanlin V5 (on which the mini is based) can be ordered from Jinke for $249,- (excl shipping):

Which means the EZReader Pocket Pro can't be too far behind. I bet Robertb is finishing up the translation of the User Manual now.

Yes, but you'll also get

lower resolution
smaller SD card support
fewer grayscale levels
slower processor
slower controller
smaller battery
less cool colour options
less pocketability

I think griffonwing is refering to grayscales (8 as opposed to 4 on the original BeBook).

For plain text is the additional levels of grayscale really that big of a deal?

I want more grayscales, faster processor, faster controller, and pocketability...

Besides, the 6" is €289, and the 5" would be €199 (unless they've changed it...). So, it's €90 difference for me. (about $128 dollar)

That's what Griffonwing said, the 6" has a lower resolution...

I never read plain text, actually... My books are generally in mobipocket format and some do contain images.

No Support for Mobi DRM

Actually, in a email from the company in which I directly asked about MOBI DRM support, they said it would not support Mobi DRM, just non-DRM Mobi. See my post in the forums.

As long as mobi is supported, I'm good. I've too many devices at it is anyway to be able to register them all...

Right, they both technically have the same resolution (being 800x600), but since the pixel density is tighter on the 5", it's resolution would be perceived to be higher.

In my mind, it's a higher resolution.

well when talking about resolution in computing terms the resolution is the amount of data that can be displayed on the screen, which is the same for both, but worse actually for the 5 inch because of perception.

In short Resolution is the Pixels by Pixels count

so 800x600 obvous,

higher DPI is pixel density. which is what you want.

so if you say DPI you don't have to explain yourself and go around confusing people.

(the same thing goes for Memory in a computer, when you say memory you are talking about ram, when you say space, you are talking about HD space. alot of people still do this.)
