YouGov does survey on ebook readers

YouGov, a UK market research company, has just sent out a short survey that seems to be centred on ebook readers to its members. (I say seems, as I don't know what options you would get if you said you didn't have one)

What I found mildly interesting was that some of the questions mentioned things like format compatibility, and one question was entirely about DRM (without mentioning the term!)

Interesting - is there any indication who's sponsoring the poll?

No. From the questions asked I don't think it was someone who already has an ebook reader out, and as the questions were both about functionality of the reader and content available, I don't think it was a publisher.

And they don't give any hints in the preamble to it!

Hmmm... YouGov don't come cheap so it's someone with a real stake.

Let's see... who might be releasing a reader new to the UK market at the end of the year and needs to know where to pitch marketing/PR?

Either stand up and fight for 'liseuse' or you will end up with 'reader'.
Are you really prepared to let that happen?

And the reward you get for doing the survey was higher than the average, too...

I didn't think of that! It could very easily be someone who has say a reader out in, say, the US, but wants to know the buying reasons etc in the UK...

You think it might be someone wanting to "kindle" our enthusiasm for e-books?

well, barnes&noble's ad copy for their new reading app says :

Quote:
In short, we're not just a new chapter or a new stanza, we're a whole new story that's going to kindle a real revolution in reading.
so it must be them, right ?

YouGov is frequently used by The Economist and The Economist does quarterly technology reports, so it is possible that the culprit is The Economist trying to discover the future of ebooks and ebook devices.
