Angry Cool-er crashed

I may have had a similar problem.

I renamed the folders and copied something over. And now the reader will no longer let me modify any folder names or contents. Whenever I attempt to, it automatically restarts.

Also whenever I want to go back to the library page from a book reading. It hangs there forever.

I guess the wisdom is not to change any of the file structure then....

I am really frustrated. Emailed them and see what they say.

Any luck fixing yours?

What was the former folders? maybe it will help making new ones..

No unfortunately. If someone could take an image of the flash drive we might could get it working again - I guess we won't be the last ones to attempt changing /clean up the folder structure...

I'm on a mac and there was also a problem with ejecting the drives, they remounted in few seconds again.

Otherwise I think it is a great product

Oh, I already have tons of books on mine and had no problems at all. I haven't made a backup of the original state, sorry!

The original folders are:
Digital Editions
Free eBooks
My Audio
My Docs

I am using a PC, and I have added three other folders without any problems.
When my Cool-er crashes, it simply switches itself off - and back on again - without me doing anything about it!

My latest crash came when I had converted a book from (unsecure) Mobipocket with Calibre to be compatible with the Cool-er, and it had no table of contents..... when I tried to view the table of contents, the Cool-er crashed! The previous crash came about when I had several books opened, but none bookmarked and I suspect I just challenged the memory a step too far!

Thanks.

Still won't work though, after I changed the folder's back to their original names.

I just can't go from reading a book back to the library page without resetting it....

Not yet- tried to fix it myself- because the magnitude of self-mistake.

Though with the COOL-ER's drag and drop solution there might be problems with deleting files on a mac (especially on a mac and SD flash cards) since the files just get moved to the hidden .Trashed folder and therefore filling up space..

I have made Apple Scripts for that in the past, the problem also came when I made an automated copy, jpeg compression, images resize and auto crop from flagged iPhoto photos to a Memory Stick, to use with a digital photo frame.

Well, the solution to your problem is a flashing of the firmware, I'm afraid. As that is not available yet for download, the only viable solution is to contact the support and get it from there.

You might already know this, but just in case :
It's pretty simple to remove these files, you just have to empty the Mac trash with your device connected.
This will also empy the trash folder on the device.

One extra tip:
If you want to be able to read Aportis doc files (ereader files are not working) you should rename the file from .pdb to .prc! PDB, for some reason, is not recognized while prc is!

Yes I'm almost positive that the camera still was in USB mode, so I included this in script:
rm -rf /Volumes/X/.Trashes/

But it is worth keeping an eye on.

For removing those nasty Mac OS X hidden files on FAT/FAT32 volumes you can also try the neat little app Hidden Cleaner v1.2.1 - see here:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/34318

---

To Install:

Simply open the dmg, drop the app in your Applications folder, then run it. It will give you an info message, and while the message is still on screen go to the icon in your dock and click-and-hold or ctrl-click (to get the context menu - i.e. right-click with two button mouse) and select "Keep In Dock." Then you can hit "OK" on the info message and the icon will remain in your dock.

---

To Use:

When you want to clean and eject a volume, just grab it and drag it onto the Hidden Cleaner dock icon (instead of your trash can / eject button) and the app will ask you "Eject?" with an option for yes or no. I believe this means you can clean and keep the volume mounted, or clean and eject, but I only ever hit "Yes" to clean and eject.

The process may take some time (30-60 seconds) and may complete without ejecting the first time, especially on larger volumes with lots of files. If that happens simply repeat the process (i.e. drag the volume onto the dock icon and hit "Yes" then wait).

While working you will see a little black & white circular icon divided into 4 quadrants which will disappear when the process finishes, along with your volume icon from the desktop (hopefully) meaning your disk has now been cleaned and ejected.

---

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Why would you format the Cool-er? Did it need it?

First I renamed some of the default folders to my native language (danish), and experienced problems like blank folders, and couldn't delete a txt file.

So I thought that formatting (like on other gadgets) was the solution but of course that was a mistake since the COOL-ER didn't create a default folder structure via boot or reset.
