Really they weren't intended for mobile devices.

The Mobipocket files were generated from the PDFs so I'm surprised that the title metadata was wrong. It seemed to work for me on my PC based Mobipocket reader. They too were encrypted to protect the authors' work, but they weren't encrypted with password, nor was any DRM added.

I will offer ePub files within the next few weeks for all our stories. I'll let everyone know when that's available.
Hold on here... You created PDF and then converted the PDF to Mobipocket? That is 100% wrong. You will have introduced errors into the Mobipocket files for sure. You never ever convert from PDF to make other eBook formats. You start with a good source say HTML and convert to Mobipocket, ePub, etc. No wonder the Mobipocket files have problems. Please start with a clean HTML source that has never seen PDF. You can then use Calibre to convert to Mobipocket, MS Reader, and ePub.

Seconded. And thirded. Using PDFs as a start-point for doc conversion is for people who don't have the originals, whatever those are. I don't know of *any* conversion programs that work better from PDF than from... any other usable source.

I too am compeled to put in disclaimer, like most of people discussing in this thread:
I am not *that* keen on this type of erotica, I just want to help an honest effort to promote and expand e-books
There's a very firm theory that the internet created bandwidth & speed in order to exchange smut. (Before rickrolling, there was goatse. Wait, probably bad example. Before megaupload, there was the alt.binaries.sex hierarchy.) If smut-ebooks are available in an array of filetypes and without DRM, those practices may filter outward to other publishers.

Erotica is the most cutting-edge, experimental content on the internet. Because it's so often considered shameful, none of the established standards apply to it, and it's free to try to find what works, instead of what is most like what's been done before.

Ok. I had a look.
Strictly to see the format, mind you

The story itself seems to be a very straightforward html file. Just perfect for automatic conversion.

Tell me, how is the "source" for each story stored on a server? In a database? Or in a series of files? Do you have access to the files? Do you have administrator for the site?

You can convert thousands of files just by importing the files into Calibre software http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/
selecting the files and picking "batch convert" option.
EDIT:
You might want to download beta version of Calibre.

Paper text erotica is, I believe, a majority-female market. (Paper image erotica is a majority-male market.) Online erotica/porn is not, although I think the text stories have a fairly evenly gendered following.

The romance market is almost exclusively female, but that's a different niche from erotica. Some mainstream romance publishers dabble in erotica, but the story themes are still very much romance--Harlequin's "Blaze" line gets pretty explicit, but the stories are still 1 boy, 1 girl, True Love Forever Happy Ever After stories.

version 6.0beta9 I am using at the moment does have that option. It can create 11 types of output formats.
I have never actually tried quality of calibre created mobi format. I have Sony reader PRS-500.
Once Barnsy has al the stories imported into Calibre library he can create quite a few different formats with a few clicks. LRF, epub, mobi, even FB2.

Several OCR programs I have tried give surprisingly good result.
Anyway, the pdf option is the last resort I try when converting.

Exactly.
The erotica industry has pioneered quite a few technologies we take for granted today.

I don't know how far back it was when Mobipocket output was added to Calibre. I'm sure someone could read the changelogs over at Kovid's site to figure that out.

I'm running 0.5.2 on one computer and a newer version on the other. Calibre at these levels can produce Mobipocket, ePub and LRF output. I like the idea that at version 6 it will be able to produce even more. Once I learn how to coerce Calibre into formatting *exactly* like I want -- which I assume means I'll have to master the XPath settings for Mobi & ePub output and the Regular expressions for LRF output. (I wonder why a single mechanism wasn't used for all outputs??)

Thanks for the post Barnsy!

DISCLAIMER:

I did not look.
I did not read.
I did not carefully copy and paste.
I did not paste into Bookdesigner and make an lrf formatted copy for my PRS 700.

I was far too busy chasing a bad monkey and spanking it all day to do any of the above.

I am curious. Why are you requiring people to join as members and login to download the stories? I would like to download stories but I don't want to create another login I have to keep track of.

Definitely not for me; too male-oriented.

For those looking for erotica that's more gender-neutral, check out some of my favorite sites:

www.loose-id.com

www.triskelion.com

Fictionwise carries great erotica, too.

No, the erotica market in e-books is 90% female, at least when it comes to purchased erotica.

Men seem to prefer videos and pictures; women much prefer words.

I make my living selling erotica to women so I am up on these stats.

Ebooks, I believe. But a lot of the "online text porn/erotica" sites are strongly male-focused. (And poorly edited. Very poorly edited.) I'm balancing those in with the ebook sites, and thinking the gender balance of people looking for erotica-in-text online is close to evenly split... but the ones willing to pay for it are mostly women.

It's also possible the text sites I've seen are mostly older, dating from when the web was mostly male-dominated, and my perceptions are several years out of date.

I've liked some LooseId books; I'll check out Triskelion.

It's tough to get men to pay for text-based erotica, though. Most of the text erotica/porn I've seen that's geared towards men is free.

Women, on the other hand, are willing to spend $ for good quality erotica. May their tribe increase!

The second one was down, but the first one I already knew. I'd say that at least loose-id is aimed at heterosexual women, and I'm really puzzled about what your definition of gender neutral is?

I'd say gender neautral means it's aimed at and appeal to both men and women. This is racy romance for straight women.

The ad serving system that I've created tries to best target ads. If the reader is a logged in member and happens to have provided optional profile info such as gender and orientation then we can serve ads appropriately. Aside from that, it's just nice to have members
