Question Reduction in number of Kindle titles?

A couple of days ago the total number of available Kindle books on Amazon's site totaled in excess of 317,000. But as of this posting, the total now shows 294,423.

Yikes! What happened??

Speculation in the Amazon Discussion groups is that they have reduced duplicate titles:

http://www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/for...ype=tagsDetail

A quick scan of the Sci-Fi section seems to support that IMO.

Yes, I started that thread. And just checking again, the total is now 319,000+. Strange indeed.

It's the scale that's strange, not the fact there may be fewer. Rights don't last forever. Publishers can pull back books.
