SFBC Considering Ebooks?

Is anyone else a member of the Science Fiction Book Club? I just filled out a survey they sent me where they were asking a LOT of questions about the Sony and the Kindle (which do you own, how many ebooks have you bought, how do you like it, etc). They also asked a bunch of questions about how you would feel about them selling ebooks, and possibly their own ebook device.

I think it would be interesting if they did decide to enter the ebook market. I just hope they do it on their own terms and don't try to team up with Amazon or something.

Just curious if anyone else has any thoughts on this.

It can only be a good thing IMHO. Ebooks seem to be gaining a lot of traction lately, and every new avenue where they're actively encouraged is all for the better. Be sure to mention ePub, as we all would like a nice (non-Amazon/non-US only) standard

I'm a member and saw an email labelled "survey", which prompted me to ignore it.

Hopefully I didn't delete it - the more feedback they get on ebooks the better.

As usual, DRM is going to be my big concern. Hopefully there's some questions about it on the survey.

I just canceled my SFBC membership, but I did mention the lack of ebooks as the primary reason.

SF and Romance are the biggest ebook genres - this seems like a no-brainer to me.

If they do this, I'll certainly have to consider rejoining.

I was just about to delete mine, and decided "what the hell" and decided to try it. I'm kind of glad I did. The more places offering ebooks, the better.

Dear Junkml:

I have written SFBC to try to get them interested in Astak eBook Readers! If this goes, they will certainly do eBooks. So, we are all attacking them from different angles with the same goal in mind!

Thank you for your post!!

Good news and good luck.

I first contacted SFBC about 8 years ago asking about the possibility of doing ebooks. Never heard a response. Hopefully they will jump on this.

It would probably be better if they really didn't think you were attacking them

I am a member, and filled out the survey about 6 weeks ago.

I had also sent an email to them asking if they had considered the option of ebooks. I also explained that while I have been a member of SFBC for a couple of decades, I did not buy pbooks anymore.

I keep my subscription to the club because it keeps me aware of new books coming out, and if they added an option for ebooks I would jump all over it!
