"No Suitable Format Found"?

I've gotten my 2-week-trial Sony 700 reader.

I've downloaded all my Baen titles in zipped Sony Reader format. Noticed that Sony's library can't see the books inside the zips, but Calibre can. Calibre even detects my attached reader.

So I select all the Baen titles, select "send to device"...and it tells me "no suitable format found." Even when I specifically tell it to send LRF to the device, no suitable format found.

What's up with that?

You have to convert the book to epub (or lrf) first

But it already is in LRF, inside of a zip file. If the thing can read the metadata off of it without unzipping, why can't it install it without unzipping?

That's a good question. But note that there's not really any reason to keep an LRF inside a zip file anyway -- the LRF is already compressed, so zipping it doesn't really gain you anything.

And, on second thought, ISTR that Calibre assumes that zip files are zipped up HTML, not zipped up LRF. Or something.

Calibre can handle zipped files - but when it goes to send to the Sony it checks if the file it's sending (ie the zip) is one of the file types the Sony handles (lrf/epub) and since zip isn't on that list it comes back with the error.
