Compared to other ereaders available right now, the price is excellent. That's my personal opinion of course.

Check out the poll I started here: Is the Kindle DX decently priced?

According to the hands ons being reported so far, speed is slightly slower than the K2. Same engine + same technology + but applied to more info to refresh each page = slightly slower refresh.

Should be the same controller as the K2, or perhaps a new revision?

Have you looked at the latest Linux sources of the K2? Perhaps they have some hints...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200203720

Sources for the K DX are not out yet...

Shame users will only be able to highlight text if they've got a properly OCRed PDF.

I'm terribly disappointed they didn't find a way to use all that extra screen real estate to display newspapers in a more newsprint kind of way. Perhaps an exact replica of newsprint isn't possible on the DX, but it would have been much more interesting to do something approaching it. The DX presents newspaper content in the same uninspired way the Kindle 1 and 2 does-- a way that looks like an MS Word document with a picture inserted at the top. Hopefully, Plastic Logic's trial with the Detroit papers will take a different approach.

On a more positive note, I do love the native PDF support, as it would allow me to finally read all the academic journal articles I need to that come in PDF, which I cannot read on my Sony Reader. Still, I think I'll wait to see what Plastic Logics has to offer

Any word on DRM for student textbooks? This could be a devil's advocate scenario. The prices may be much better than the typical college book stores or sources but with DRM the students would lose the ability to re-sell those books.

Great still no european launch there is no excuse for not having this out in europe at the same time as the US they have had ages now to work out what do with whispernet outside of the US. I hope sony will be quick to launch a 9.7" device as that will most likely be available for most of world to buy.

I'd like to see an upgrade to allow PDF on K2, even if it meant viewing the page in strips in landscape (to be able to view an 8.5x11" page with sufficient resolution) - so basically there would be no text reflow, or there would be some option to toggle reflow (as with Adobe Reader).
But while they are at it: add ePub support!!
For regular books, how do they use the extra resolution? 2 columns? ability to select larger text sizes?

They didn't say, but since they've said they won't do Kindle's for elsewhere until publishers build up a decent library of ebooks they can sell (at least 90,000 titles like they had for K1's launch IIRC) I doubt the DX will be any more available than the K1 or K2.

I'm really curious to see what the pricing looks like with a newspaper subscription. If it's done right, I think it could really catch on

I received word from Adobe that the Kindle DX's integration of the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK only includes PDF support, but not support for EPUB or Adobe Content Server 4 yet.

At least it's a first step.
