Endless Ideas announces 5" mini-BeBook

Endless Ideas, the Netherlands-based company behind the BeBook ereader, announced a 5" mini-BeBook with SD card slot today. The company made this announcement through their Twitter account. Unfortunately, no further details have been disclosed yet.

The 5" ereader could be a 'little brother' of the 6" BeBook 2, that was announced earlier this year. It is not clear whether the 5" model will feature an eInk screen - like the BeBook 2 - or if the mini-Bebook will be equiped with 3G support and/or wifi.

I'd be interested in an ebook reader that uses eInk and is small enough to put in my pocket. A 5" diagonal screen with a small border would be around the size of an iPhone, so that would be perfect. I look forward to seeing what this one looks like.

I seriously doubt a 5" screen device can ever be around the size of a 3.5" iPhone screen device.

On what planet? 2x2 + 3x3 = 13. The square root of 13 is not 5. It is not even 4. The square root of 25 is 5. Go back to school and learn some basic math. A 5" diagonal is 3" x 4" and the iPhone is only 2.4" wide.

Ooops, sorry it's 3x4. That's what I get for using memory instead of actually doing the math.

Know your Pythagoras! 3/4/5 triangles are one of the easier ones

3x4 is, what, the size of a postcard?

But perhaps we could have a different aspect ratio.

The ISO paper sizes have a ratio of 1:1.414

So a five inch diagonal would have a width of 2.89 inches and a height of 4.08 inches.

Or a 'widescreen' 9:16 ratio, giving width of 2.45 inches and a height of 4.36 inches.

The Iphone screen is 3.5" diagonal, so much smaller than this device.

In another twit of about 4 hours ago, they said something about breaking the 200 Dollars/Euros barrier.
This could make the device very interesting, if it would really be an e-ink based reader.

It would definitely get more people interested in checking out eBook Readers. The price has always been a stumbling block for my friends who don't read as voraciously as I do.

For me, the form factor is more intriguing than the bargain price...if it really turns out to be pocketable that would be awesome.

It doesn't look like its pocketable (at least not comfortably). I screwed up -- very embarassing.
