Pirate Bay founders found guilty

A court in Sweden has jailed four men behind The Pirate Bay (TPB), the world's most high-profile file-sharing website.

Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Carl Lundstrom and Peter Sunde were found guilty of breaking copyright law and were sentenced to a year in jail.

They were also ordered to pay 30m kronor (£2.4m) in damages.

Another news report:

It's official - the four defendants in The Pirate Bay versus entertainment industry trial have been found guilty in a Swedish court of being accessories to breaching copyright laws.

The verdict was handed down to four men behind the notorious BitTorrent tracker site this morning in a court in Stockholm.

"The Stockholm district court has today found guilty the four individuals that were charged with accessory to breaching copyright laws," the court said in a statement. "The court has sentenced each of them to one year in prison."

Additionally, the defendants have been ordered to pay 30 million Swedish crowns ($3.58m).

You approve of the fact that revenue from "The Pirate Bay" funds some of the most unpleasant neo-Nazi groups in Europe?

What part of the link backs up that assertion? I'm missing it.

Carl Lundström - the leading shareholder of "The Pirate Bay" - is a well-known neo-Nazi and funds candidates for the ultra-right-wing "New Democacy" party in Sweden. It is the revenue from the web site that is used to fund these highly unpleasant people. I don't know about you, but personally I find that somewhat distasteful.

Do a Google search if you want more information. It is an aspect of "The Pirate Bay" which, curiously, is not terribly well publicised.

Only, the link you provided says Lundstrom funds Pirate Bay, which is the opposite to what you claimed.

You can't trust that article. If you can't see the bias, Harry, then you are blind.

He funded its "start up", but it is now an extremely profitable site, estimated to earn some $6m a year in revenues. Mr. Lundström is a businessman who does these things to make money, and uses that money for purposes that I personally find thoroughly distasteful. See:

"Lundström is alleged to own 40 per cent of The Pirate Bay - the largest share"
And that he's bankrolling 100 far right candidates

He's a businessman. I patronize his business based on the value proposition of his products and services, not his personal politics. The same is true of Domino's Pizza, Wal-Mart, etc. An author's or actor's personal beliefs don't decide whether or not I buy their books or see their movies.
