I had some weird, Lovecraftian poetry published in Nyctalops and other magazines when I was younger.

Anyone out there writing poetry?

Poem? Sure, why not.

Haiku? Nope, you dropped a syllable in the third line (not to mention the non-nature theme).

Funny? Yep. And that often trumps both.

I wonder whether this might be one of our transatlantic differences? "Poem" has two syllables in the U.K.
(Not that this matters: the "poem" came in a flash - literally less than a minute after reading the first post. I don't think that I'm very creative at all, otherwise I'd be able to write proper poems, like Taylor's.)

As flies crawl up the windowpane,
so fly my thoughts, dear love, to thee.

This is such a heart-warming thought, don't you think?

I've already put this bit of doggerel elsewhere today, inspired by the return to myself of my home upon some family members' leavetaking, but, hey, at least it's topical here (I've heard being "topical" is a good thing, and thought I'd give it a try):

Inlaws and outlaws, daemons and gods,
pictogram golems and Übermensch clods,
Freudian avatars, corporeal fears,
raising their glasses, '"to Family...Cheers!"
