Ivanhoe ist ein 1820 publizierter Roman von Sir Walter Scott und zugleich der Name der Hauptperson des Romans, des Kreuzritters Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe.

England im 12. Jahrhundert: Ritter Wilfred von Ivanhoe kehrt vom Kreuzzug nach Palästina zurück, an dem er im Dienste seines Königs Richard Löwenherz teilgenommen hat. In der Abwesenheit des Königs hat dessen Bruder Johann versucht, die Macht an sich zu reißen. Gemeinsam mit dem geheimnisvollen schwarzen Ritter kämpft Ivanhoe gegen Johanns französische Verbündete. Aber er hat auch noch einen privaten Kampf auszufechten, nämlich den um die Liebe seiner Angebetenen, Lady Rowena.

Die Geschichte thematisiert die Rivalitäten in England zwischen Angelsachsen und Normannen nach dem Sieg Wilhelms des Eroberers sowie die Spätfolgen der Kreuzzüge mit der Geiselnahme des englischen Königs Richard Löwenherz in Österreich. Ebenso sind die damals existenten Vorurteile gegenüber Juden dargestellt. Robin Hood tritt unter dem Namen „Locksley“ in Erscheinung.
