Hi to Everybody,
I just wanted to quickly introduce myself and say hello to everyone. I'm a new member whose hobbies include digital photography, music, both listening and playing, and reading.
I just bought my first ebook reader (a Sony) last Thursday. Since then, I've really been enjoying it, as well as discovering and reading everything I can find about this subject on the web. I'm amazed at the size of the ebook world out there.
I've spent a lot of time reading on this website and using it as a springboard to many other related sites. I've bought a few books and downloaded some of the free public-domain books. I've downloaded calibre and started learning what it is and what it can do. (It appears to be a great tool so I'll be making a donation.)
Our library system doesn't have ebooks so I've applied for a NYC public library card so I can borrow from their offerings. Next I'll have to figure out how to convert DRM books so I can read then on my Sony. I've read some of the threads about that process and it looks like figuring that out will be a real challenge.
Thanks to you all for such a great site.

Hello David, and welcome to MobileRead. That PRS-505 is going to become one of your most treasured possessions. I haven't tried using my library to get electronic books for my Sony, but there are several people around here that are very active users of the library. But have you found the treasure trove of free books available here at MobileRead? Use that "E-Books" pulldown on the top blue bar and explore the thousands of titles available for your Sony Reader. And, there are lots of other places to get free books as well. The best thing to do is take a look at the Wiki since it will have the most up-to-date links to these locations.
We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead. Just plunge into any discussions. You're likely to find people who share your interests, and if you aren't careful, you may discover a new hobby or two.
