Post Best Ebook for school

I'm thinking about getting an ebook for college and books. I mainly want to be able to read a book here and there but mainly to be able to study from word docs and pdf files. I have been thinking Kendell or Sony 505, can someone please advise which one would be best for my needs? Thanks.

Kindle will have biggest book selection, ESPECIALLY non-fiction, text book types.

The ability to just email a document or pdf is incredibly useful on the Kindle, too. I've used both for school and the Kindle was a HUGE improvement in terms of how much time I spent messing with files.

Still, PDF support isn't GREAT with the Kindle - though it is pretty solid. The Sony reader can flow text in a PDF so it works quite well for that.

But I do use my Kindle for the same reasons you mentioned (and the Sony) and I'm happy with the results 99% of the time.

The bane of my existence is two column pdfs. I don't know if the Sony can do any better with them, either.

Hello PA1SA, and Welcome to MobileRead.

Supposedly, Amazon charges 10 cents per doc to convert and send, not to read. However, no one has ever reported being charged.

I'll let someone with more expertise answer the question on word docs and pdf files.

I've never been charged and I send quite a few.

Secondly, there is a way not to be charged, I believe. You download them from the site and put the files on yourself - I THINK.

Also, if you have a Windows computer you can use a free program MobiCreator to convert these files yourself in just a few moments. Plug in the Kindle and there you go.

Yes, instead of sending to @kindle.com you send to @free.kindle.com... That is emailed to your rather than whisperneted.

They charge you when the amount reaches $3, from what I've read - ie after 30 conversions.

Looks like I am leaning towards the Kindel side and away from Sony 505, if anyone suggests Sony please advise, I want to make sure the extra 100 bucks is worth just that.
