I know nothing about Greek. If your problem is resulted from missing font for mobi-reader, you can ref this thread: http://forum.irexnet.com/viewtopic.php?t=2281.

Have you selected, in Mobi Reader, a font that contains Greek characters?

Mobi-reader on iLiad does not provide font-selection function.

Mobipocket creator

The mobipocket creator has two font options when you create a prc from pdf : International (UTF8) and Western (windows 1252) I tried to make the ebook with both methods but on iliad the results was the same.

Sorry - you didn't specify in your original post that you were trying to read them on the iLiad.

Given that the iLiad does not, regretably, provide the ability to change fonts, I suspect that you are "out of luck". It is a self-evident fact that you aren't going to be able to view Greek characters unless the font which you're using to view the book contains those characters!

UTF8 is the correct setting to use when creating the book, but you do need the appropriate font on the reader to view the resulting book.

UTF8 and W1252 are not font options. They are character encoding options. Generally, selecting UTF8 is always safe for non-English text. After properly setting char-encoding, the only thing left to do is to provide a proper font for mobi-reader to render the page with correct glyphs.

To make sure that the book has been correctly created, try viewing it in the Windows MobiPocket Reader and selecting, say, the "Ariel Sans Unicode" font. That contains all the Greek characters.

As far as I know, the iLiad does not have a greek font. That's the problem.

FBReader on the iLiad does allow you to select the font used to view a Mobi book. What I'm not sure about is whether or not one can install additional fonts. Perhaps someone else knows?

If not, your best answer would be to create a PDF file with the Greek font embedded in the document, rather than a Mobi book.

To be more specific:

Officially, the iLiad does not come with a greek font and the built in Mobipocket application does not allow you to change fonts.

If you install the developers kit and get shell access, then you can install third party applications (like FBReader) and additional linux fonts (if you know how to do that). That might let you read these documents using FBReader instead. I'm not sure how the FBReader knows what fonts are available though. IE, if it'll automatically pick up any additional fonts you've installed or if you'll have to make any modifications to FBReader to use them. I would hope it's automatic, but I'm not sure. Either way you're going to need a little bit of technical knowledge to get this to work. The iLiad won't do it "out of the box".

Personally, since they're PDFs anyway I would transfer them to the iLiad as a PDF and make sure the fonts are embedded, like Harry says. That'll solve the problem. Why did you want to convert them to Mobi?

Yes i have done all about shell access and fbreader ipdf and everything else but no i dont know how to add fonts on iliad or even change them through fbreader because i dont open fbreader to read a book i just click on the book and it starts with fbreader. Since we say about fbreader is there any way to read a book on fbreader at full screen without toolbar like ipdf ?

Issues like this (fonts, full screen, etc) are why I prefer PDFs on the iLiad. It's setup to handle them better. The only time I transfer a Mobipocket file is if it's DRMed and that's the only option to read it.

It is possible to replace the font used by the MobiPocket Reader, see Mobipocket default font?. I don't know if using (say) the Liberation Font would add Greek to MOBI or not. You should definitely reboot after adding the font.

It is also possible to use other fonts for FBReader, but it can be tricky to install them. This may not be necessary because DejaVu Sans is already installed and supports many languages. Are you using FBReader 0.8.14 (full screen, but with a toolbar at the bottom of the screen) or FBReader 0.8.4 (with icons at the top of the screen)?
