Amazon Kindle 2.0 to be launched on Feb 9th?
Rumors are rife on the Internet that February 9th could be the date when Amazon unveils their much awaited Kindle 2.0. On that day, Amazon will hold an "important" press conference at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York. AllThingsD reports:

I don't see how they could announce a new Kindle for the US market; it would upset too many people. It's possible this will be a larger screen device, or one for the Europe market.

Why not? They did it for the Kindle 1.0. Sony did it for the PRS-700.

My guess is that all the outstanding Kindle 1 orders will ship as Kindle 2's.

Has anyone received a Kindle 1 since Jan 10th? These would still be in the 30 day return window on Feb 9th.

Note also that Amazon has a return deadline of Jan 31st for "Items sold by Amazon.com and shipped between November 1 and December 31, 2008". This would apply to the Kindle, and may be part of the reason for announcing in February. It would be risky to return a Kindle 1 this month with expectations of ordering a Kindle 2 in February though. I have no idea what happens to your ebooks in that case.

Electronic devices do get updated; everybody accepts that. It happens on many occasions; eg, Bookeen's "out of the blue" announcement that they were starting to ship Gen3's with 512MB RAM at the same price as the older 64MB models. People simply accepted it as "one of those things that happens."

Alas, consumer spending is rapidly declining. Amazon better get the price right for the Kindle 2...

The NYSE is a stock exchange, not an index you could be listed on.

In any case, public companies don't have to pick the place of a press conference based on the physical location of a stock exchange.
