PDAToday's Plastic Logic e-reader hands-on

Lo and behold, today our friends over at PDAToday managed to get a Plastic Logic rep to whip out his e-reader prototype for a quick look at the CES 2009.

This really does look fantastic!

But can it still withstand being hit with a shoe?

Is this a legal requirement for electronic readers that Prez Bush pushed through recently?

One of the demonstrations when it was first introduced showed the PLI unit being whacked with a shoe and still functioning. This was some time before President George Bush ducked the flying shoes.

i certainly hope so. i base all my tech purchase decisions on the shoe-thwack metric score.

We know it can. Plastic Logic pioneered the shoe wack test in the first place. It is a standard by which all others should be judged.

I have been waiting for the plastic logic for nearly a year now. I'm glad that they finally admitted that it's not shipping until 2010, now I can buy an iRex 1000 without remorse.

Oh... watching the video it says, PDF, ePub, MS Office docs... this is the device I want for office/work/techbook type documents. A year away, really?

Is that a button in the upper left corner? Or just a bit of design/logo thing?

Damn... 2010 is a disappointment. The screen background looks amazingly white (not a bit grey like on the IREX DR) and it seems pretty quick too (although we don't know what the real world speed will be...)

Before I read about 2010 - I would have said "if they bring that device in mid 2009 (or Q3) for 500-600 dollars then IRex would be practically out of business... "

But at least we know there's really good devices coming in the near future!

Does anyone know what the screen resolution is? Any guesses?
