I'm all for supporting small publishing set-ups. Can anyone recommend a good book that they publish to start with for someone who has not read their books?

Okay, done. They were relatively inexpensive, so I was able to purchase 5 of the 9. Good luck to them.

News like this should make everyone aware that publishing is not a get-rich-quick venture. A lot of us in the business work very hard for little money to provide the best books we can. I hope Apex makes it--a number of fine small publishers have failed over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, I've noticed a down-trend in sales at BooksForABuck.com over the past few months as well--part of the economic downturn, I'd guess. Although books are cheap, they're also very easy for many people to put off buying.

I jumped on the band wagon as well. Some of their books look quite interesting and I may not have noticed them otherwise. I got them at Fictionwise as all of my reading is electronic now.

Updated link to their progress (they moved blogs). Apparantly they are not doing well.

Someone left a note in a comment on my blog about this thread. I've read through it and to say I'm...touched would be an understatement. I really appreciate the support! I dunno if mobileread.com caused the Apex website to crash, but I do know we got a lot of traffic from here. I'll try to pop by whenever we have a new e-book out. And I'll definitely snoop around the forum... Again:

FW pays those out quarterly, so the purchases didn't count toward the sales tally. But rest assured every purchase made by the Mobileread.com people is appreciated! |
