Adobe and ADE DRM

I have scoured the forum and can find no useful information on Adobe or ADE DRM (read removal). Does anyone have any comments/information on this topic?

There is no known way to remove DRM from ADE which would be illegal anyway.

Please clarify: No known way at all, or no known way that would be legal?

With due respect to all, I don't believe that removing any DRM is considered "legal", but there is a lot of information available regarding removing DRM from MOBI, as an example.

There is no known way and ...

You asked for information and comments and I gave you both.

I am not aware of any cracks of this DRM.

The copistar program uses what are essentially images of the screen, to build a "scan" of the ebook, see Now that my mobi problem is solved. This isn't cracking the encryption, but might still be considered circumvention.

Another recent thread of interest is Porting or new Funtionality, since it includes a report of using a print feature (which isn't often enabled) to extract content.

I don't wish to belittle the magnitude of this accomplishment. However, I believe the REAL cat's a$$ will be breaking Adobe Digital Edition's PDF DRM.

I guess, but even if you could remove the DRM you'd still be left with a PDF (yuck).

Since ADE can typically reflow such PDFs, automatic conversion to a better format is likely to be possible.

It depends on which country you're living. On some it is legal on other it isn't.

A de-DRM'd PDF might be convertible to other formats, depending on how it was made in the first place. If nothing else, it could be saved as an RTF or HTML file, which would retain the text formatting and (if it was created in a halfway decent program) paragraph breaks. That file could then be thrown into ebook creator of your choice.

Be nice if that were always true, but many times when saving/exporting a PDF to RTF or HTML formatting such as italics is lost. I work with PDFs daily for design work and it's a great format for getting my prepress files to the printer, but it was meant to be a dead end.

Adobe's PDF DRM has also been broken. There's a thread about around here someplace.
