site for books for phone

I found this site online, maybe many already know it, but it gives books for free to download (you can always donate, but is not mandatory) for cellphone.

Basically the books are .zip files, with a .jar inside.
Winrar opens .jar files pretty ok, and you can extract the txt files of the book out of them.
It seems like every chapter is a new txt file.

There seem 3 ways of downloading.
The first (2.0) seems regular text. the second (1.0) seems the same text, but with .jar optimized for small screens (128 to 256 pix.width?), the third link per book gives you the HTML version for viewing, which you can save each html separate (takes longer).

you think these books are unique,or are they gutenberg books?

i use this site ; i like it a lot. all the titles i've seen are either PD, or CC, which is how they keep them free. i'm not sure what you mean by unique vs. gutenberg though.

i've only used the java app versions, maybe the html is new. basically each book is a little java app you install on your phone. you have 3 sizes of text to choose from, and black on white or the reverse. they use little orange markers vertically along the side of the screen (progress through the current chapter) and horizontally along the bottom of the screen (progress through the book) to show where you are. there are no bookmarking functions, but the book remembers where you are each time you quit.

i wouldn't want to spend too much time reading that way, but for a 20 minute métro ride it's a nice backup solution.

Well, I meant if the site has their own works,or if they are gutenberg books.

Also,a cellphone is indeed small. However you can extract the .txt files out of the .jar s and save them in one file (or keep every chapter as a separate .txt file); to read later on in an e-book reader.
Unless when those books already are created in ebook formats.

ah okay, i didn't understand your question. i think the site only hosts books which are available elsewhere (like PG). there are some CC books (like Cory Doctorow's books) but nothing exclusive to the site as far as i know.

if you want to read these texts on an ebook reader instead of your phone, i would recommend getting the texts elsewhere (here for instance ; quite a lot of them can already be found in our ebooks uploads section), they will be much nicer to read than the plain txt format. for reading on your phone it is a nice solution with a good implementation (from what i've seen). however, i have yet to try a different system, so i can't really compare.
