The Theory of Interstellar Trade - PDF

This is a paper written back in 1978 by Paul Krugman. (He just won the Nobel Prize in Economics.) Enjoy.

for those of us who have a literary bent towards science fiction, it might interest everyone to note that when asked last night on the Jim Lehrer Report(the only decent TV news show) how he became interested in economics Paul Krugman replied that when he was a kid he read Isaac Asimov's Foundation series and he thought he would like to become someone like Hari Seldon--- the father of psychohistory

This is a really funny paper. Here are a few quotes:

Quote:
These complications make the theory of interstellar trade appear quite alien to our usual trade models; presumably it will seem quite human to alien trade theorists.
Quote:
The remainder of this paper is, will be, or has been, depending on the reader's inertial frame, divided into 3 sections.
Quote:
This paper is a serious analysis of a ridiculous subject, which is of course quite the opposite of what is usual in economics.
It gets better.
