First, $30 of the discount is gained by applying for an Amazon Visa credit card, so if you already have this, you miss this portion. The remaining discount applies when you checkout (don't use 1-click; instead add the Kindle to your cart and go through the normal checkout process) - add the Kindle to your cart, set up payment using your Amazon Visa card and enter the discount code <b>VISACARD.</b> This part of the discount should work even if you already have the Amazon Visa credit card.

I don't think so, most likely just a promotion to increase sales. In one of the Kindle videos, the CEO mentioned that a newer version of the Kindle is still a long ways off.

I'm pretty sure that's the answer. Seems like a good idea to move out stock befor the Christmas rush of new machines. However $250 is very tempting, ends in early September...I'll have to think about this one!

The discount is being offered directly by Chase - not Amazon at all (which is why if you bought within the last 30 days, they can't do an adjustment, as they normally would -- it isn't a price adjustment, but a promotion paid for by a third party in return for using their credit card).

I'm not convinced. Jeff Bezos has said in several interviews that it is going to be quite some time before the next version. Now he could be dissembling to avoid being stuck with an inventory of unsold current models when replacement or additional models is introduced, but I tend to find him credible based on past behavior.
