Well, it's obviously a design concept. However, the idea of an e-ink page that rolls upward from a scroll-base isn't a bad one, providing the flexibility of asking for whatever size (length) of screen you desire.

It would be more efficient to turn every artificial surface into a programmable display, or just to stop messing with inefficient external crutches altogether and directly splice the data you want into the optic nerve stream

I absolutely believe it is possible to roll e-paper, it is the getting-it-completely-flat-for-comfortable-reading part without having to keep it spread manually that worries me.

Agreed, I want to be able to spread it so I can read during messy meals that require both hands without resorting to using the salt and pepper shakers :P
