Aristotle: Meteorologica, v.1, 17 June 2008.
Translated by E W Webster (1923). Aristotle’s explanations of comets, shooting stars, rain, hail, frost, earthquakes, thunder, lightning, rainbows etc. The passage on the rainbow (Book III, Ch. 4) has interested colour theorists and caused a lot of controversy. Aristotle described the rainbow as “three coloured”, explaining this via one of the first theories of colour. This work is in the Canadian public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution. It may still be under copyright in some countries.
