Kipling, Rudyard: Kim (Illustrated), v.2.00, 30 April 2010

The story of Kim, an English orphan boy in India in the late 1800s. Kim becomes involved in an old Lama's search for a sacred river, and in a British spy ring, playing the "Great Game".

This version has illustrations by John Lockwood Kipling, Rudyard Kipling's father, and an updated imitation of the title page from the 1912 Macmillan pocket edition. The cover and illustrations are 600x800, to display well on Bookeen Cybook, etc.

Illustrations and titlepage have been scanned from the 1912 Macmillan pocket edition, the text is multiple sources, and should include all original accents and italics.

The text in this version is much improved. The Project Gutenberg text has numerous errors which have now been corrected. The quotes, dashes and italics are as in the original editions. The text is based on the final authorised edition - the "Sussex" edition of 1937. The spellings are the British English spellings throughout.

There is a table of contents and a list of illustrations.

An enhanced edition of this text is available on Amazon and (shortly) various ePub resellers, that includes a hyperlinked glossary of Kipling's definitions, and numerous other definitions of foreign or unusual words.

This new version has been created with Kindlegen.

It's beautiful, but...

...the latest uBook (2008d) chokes on it. It crashes hard. FBReader and Mobipocket Reader display it fine.

I'll put in a bug report with GowerPoint as well.

The pixel size of the cover is larger than most Mobipocket books, perhaps that's the problem.

This book was created with the Mobipocket Creator 4.2 build 40, with no warnings or errors, so I'm pretty sure it's a valid Mobipocket format book.

Thanks for trying it out.

Possibly. I have put in a bug report, and have tried it since on my Cybook. That works fine as well.

It's clearly a problem with uBook.

I am currently reading Kim on my Kindle and it is a beautifully produced digital book.

The formatting is immaculate, the searchable glossary works perfectly, and the illustrations are stunning.

Thank you for bringing this classic book to us.

New, improved version 2 of the text uploaded. This has many corrections, and is (in my opinion!) the cleanest electronic version available, and that includes the ePenguin edition!
