You mean you interrupted the "compact database" operation?

Not specifically but my computer has been rebooted at least 3 times and calibre has been closed many times.

hmm not good. Install the sqlite command line client and try to dump the database in a sql file.

Code:
sqlite library1.db
sqlite> .output dump.sql
sqlite> .dump
If this succeeds you should be able to use dump.sql to recreate the database

Thank you for your help. I think that my database is not corrupted. I have about 11000 books in text format and its too much for the program. I replaced ma database by an old one i had and i deinstalled completley calibre even in the registry. I reinstalled calibre and i have the same problem. Its working but very very slowly.

Hmm, I'd like to debug these speed issues, is it possible for you to upload your database somewhere and send me a PM with a link to it?

Gentoo is actually pretty bad unless you use ~ARCH (even python 2.5 is ~x86). I will update the instructions for gentoo once the ebuilds hit at least ~x86
I can understand coding for fun, more power t'ye.

I've actually had a bad history w/ using a blanket ~x86 flag. Had a bad emerge and ended up with a dead system (this was about 5 years ago though). I've found it safer in the long run to do it case-by-case (I only run it on my work laptop, I can't trash it). I do realize that developer tools are pretty slow to migrate to stable, but applications tend to actually be pretty up-to-date with a month or so of testing.

If I get some time, I'll see if I can test the utilities and get the ebuild marked to ~x86.

I've been in ~x86 for years, but then I'm willing to debug things if they go wrong, so I don't recommend it for everyone.
